Abstract

This article provides a detailed analysis of the production technology of natural-origin functional yarns widely used in the medical textile industry, their physicochemical properties, and their suitability for medical applications. The study comparatively examines the advantages and limitations of yarns produced from cotton, bamboo, linen, silk, and chitosan-based fibers. The high hygroscopicity and hypoallergenic nature of cotton fibers, the antibacterial and breathable structure of bamboo fibers, the strong antiseptic effect of linen fibers, the biocompatibility and high level of comfort of silk fibers in contact with the skin, and the natural antimicrobial properties of chitosan fibers are particularly emphasized.

The article also explains the technologies used to convert these fibers into yarn form, including mechanical, chemical, and biotechnological processing methods. The research findings indicate that the use of natural-origin functional yarns enhances the safety, comfort, and therapeutic effectiveness of medical textile products. Wound dressing materials, surgical garments, protective coverings, and rehabilitation products made from such yarns are considered more biocompatible and environmentally sustainable for patients. In conclusion, the development of functional yarns based on natural fibers offers innovative and sustainable solutions for medical textiles.
