This study aims to assess the interaction between the economically active population's sex-gender structure and Azerbaijan's unemployment dynamics from 1995 to 2023. The annual data of the State Statistical Committee were explored and analyzed in the Python environment using pandas and matplotlib, and various resources were consulted to explain the trends. The results indicate that although there was gender convergence in employment during the period from 2003 to 2023, the pandemic shock in 2020 caused a temporary divergence.
The practical significance of this study lies in the fact that the localized version of the "unemployment entry index" enables real-time tracking of gender asymmetry in the labor market. The scientific novelty of the research is that this index has been adapted to the Azerbaijani context for the first time and accounts for 3.1 percentage points of the gender gap.
